Publishers

DC Comics – One of the “big two” publishers in the US, DC is home to iconic characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, and holds considerable power and sway over the marketplace.

Marvel – One of the “big two” publishers in the US, Marvel is home to iconic characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man, and holds considerable power and sway over the marketplace.

IDW Publishing – Second only to Image in “indie” publishing, IDW publishes creator-owned works, numerous licensed titles (such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers), and The Library of American Comics reprints of classic comics.

Image – The largest of the “indie” publishers, Image has captured a huge share of the market in recent years, publishing genres ranging from superheros to horror and beyond. Image prides itself on being a creator-owned publishing company, meaning creators retain the copyright and majority of control over stories.

Study Group Comics – Study Group is a small indie publisher that primarily focuses on zines, small comics, and webcomics but has begun publishing long-form graphic novels.

Applications

Madefire – Madefire is an innovative reading application that transforms the static medium of comics into interactive, motion reading. Currently the company has made small inroads with existing publishers, but is primarily seeking to work with creators to create new comic projects. The app is available for use on desktop computers, Apple products, and through the GooglePlay store.
